Muslim Jan is a Post-graduate in Mass Communication and Journalism. Before joining the University as Editor, she worked with UNI at the agency’s New Delhi Bureau. Currently, Muslim Jan is working as Senior Editor for the departmental publications viz., fortnightly newspaper MERC Times and a bi-annual magazine Media Times. For the last seventeen years, she has been serving the department and the University in different roles. She conducts classes on editing to give students hands-on experience in newspaper and magazine reporting and editing. As an Editor and Researcher, she also guides the research projects/dissertations of 4th-semester media students. She is a regular editorial writer for the departmental magazine and has also authored many research papers in various journals. She has been an Associate Editor of Journal of Social Science, Kashmir University (2006-2007). She has attended many national/ international conferences and workshops. Muslim Jan has also worked with UNICEF as a researcher at New Delhi. She has worked as a Research Associate with renowned social scientist George Matthew, at New Delhi. She has also been deputed by the University of Kashmir to work English Desk of NDTV at New Delhi. She is also Chapter Head J&K for South Asian Women in Media (SAWM). Muslim Jan has submitted her Ph.D. thesis on Role of South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) In India-Pakistan Peace Building.
