Nirmala is currently the India bureau chief for The Straits Times, the Singapore based newspaper. She writes on a wide variety of topics ranging from social issues to foreign policy for the newspaper. She has been in journalism for over two decades and previously worked in The Asian Age, The Indian Express and The Economic Times. She has covered different beats including the Ministry of External Affairs for The Economic Times.
