I work as a journalist at Bangladesh's leading English newspaper, The Daily Star. I am currently working as the Features Editor of the paper. I have worked at The Daily Star since its inception 31 years ago and the focus of my work has been both broad and diversified. I was involved in conceptualizing and leading two popular supplements – The Rising Stars and Star Lifestyle.
I also completed with distinction a six-month print-media fellowship, the Alfred Friendly Press Fellow 2000, at the Houston Chronicle in Houston, Texas, USA, as a General Assignment Reporter.
In addition to this, I am also extremely interested in writing about humanitarian issues. Coming from Bangladesh, it is perhaps my exposure to the legal and material deprivations of people around me that has led to my interest in this line of reporting. I work as a free lance contributor with UNICEF on the lives of vulnerable children in Bangladesh and also a German Magazine called “Welt-sichten”. I would like to leverage that experience and continue writing about the everyday realities of marginalised communities.
