My area of interest is Human Rights, with a special focus on women. Since 1998, I have been working, in different contexts, on issues like women's empowerment in adverse circumstances, gender sensitization of agents of administration, including bureaucracy and the police force and social action to counter violence against women. I have worked, specifically, on the Supreme Court guidelines on sexual harassment at workplace. In the last few years, I have focused on different kinds of human rights violations in India and in different parts of the world, including Chechnya, China, DR Congo, Sudan and Nigeria to cite a few examples As a journalist working with the premier newspaper in Eastern India with a daily readership of more than 6 million, I can try and sensitize a large community as well as a significant group of opinion leaders and policymakers to the human rights issue.
